My approach

I believe in straightforward, honest communication. Therefore, my approach in therapy focuses on addressing issues head-on, fostering transparency, and facilitating an open dialogue with your partner.

By inviting warm, truthful, and honest interactions, my direct approach in therapy can create a space where couples can (and do!) make informed, compassionate decisions about their future. Whether it’s healing together or moving apart, the goal of good couples therapy is always the well-being and happiness of both individuals involved.

Previous clients express that what sets me apart from other therapists is my direct approach combined with my expertise and specialization in couples therapy.

Specifically, I focus on:

  • identifying the barriers that keep you from having the relationship you want; and

  • providing practical skills and strategies to overcome relational barriers, so you can cultivate deeper connection and intimacy.

In my practice, I draw on my comprehensive training in eclectic, existential, relational, and psychodynamic modalities of therapy―but I believe the most effective psychotherapy focuses on developing fulfilling and meaningful connections. For this reason, I believe my mentor said it best: “the work of psychotherapy requires a trusting relationship that can sustain the warmth of connection as well as the heat that may be required for change.”

Although I specialize in couples counseling, my training as a sex therapist ensures my office is a space where no topic is off limits or taboo.

Currently, I provide confidential therapy services in-person at my offices in Grand Rapids, East Lansing, or online using a secure virtual platform.
