FAQs
How important is it to find the right therapist for me?
Psychotherapy is most successful when you feel comfortable and safe with your therapist, so we will work together to ensure that we are the right fit to form a therapeutic relationship―this “getting to know each other” process can take a few sessions. Specifically for couples therapy, it is important that both you and your partner feel comfortable with the therapist.
Once we commit to working together, we will talk about the life you would like to create as well as the path that led you to where you are today. I believe each of us possesses the capacity to discover a path that leads to our own personal freedom, and this journey of discovery can be rewarding and life-changing.
Research has shown repeatedly that the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client is a significant predictor in the success of psychotherapy. When exploring psychotherapy, I encourage you to meet with more than one therapist and to ask potential therapists questions about their personal process of marriage counseling. Sometimes, it may take time to feel comfortable with a therapist, and it might take a few sessions before deciding whether you have found a therapist that gives you the feeling of safety and security you need to begin the process of healing your relationship.
What can I expect in the first session?
This initial 50-minute session will give us the chance to begin the process of getting to know each other. This will also be an important opportunity to see if we are a good “fit” for therapy, and you will be able to get to know me and my therapeutic style. Sometimes the “getting to know you” process may take up to a few sessions.
If we agree to work together, we will schedule future sessions, usually once per week. If we are not a good fit for any reason, I will be more than happy to provide you with referrals for other providers who may be a better match for you.
